Area Information

 

The town of West Yellowstone, MT is the western gateway to Yellowstone National Park and is surrounded by the Gallatin and Targhee National Forests.  West Yellowstone is located approximately 90 miles south of Bozeman, MT along Hwy 191, and approx. 100 miles northeast of Idaho Falls, ID along Hwy 20.  With an elevation of 6667 ft., West Yellowstone is perfectly situated to offer visitors access to many varied means of experiencing the stunning views, spectacular wildlife and favorite activities of outdoor enthusiasts all year round!

The surrounding national forests lands include over 400 miles of public access trails available all year round for multi-purpose uses such as snowmobiling, ATV's, dirt bikes and hiking.  Other trail systems are used for skiing, snowshoeing, and horseback riding.  To learn more about these trail systems, regulations and activities, please visit the Gallatin National Forest Recreation site
